All in all, it’s been a great Holiday season – including a Christmas Eve visit from Santa, sweet gift giving, taking Grandma to see Fantastic Mr. Fox, adding a new nutcracker to my collection, helping the family out, juicy roasts roasting, roaring fires and cousins playing with my old legos.
Let’s expand on that “helping the family out” one: My Dad told me the printer was ‘broken’ and wanted me to fix it. No biggie, I generally get these requests, and I’m happy to help out. However, I couldn’t help but show him one of my favorite xkcd comics regarding this topic. Next morning, I find an email from the sassy old man, with an attached file named (note xckd spelling): “mom_and_dad_xcmd_flowchart.pdf” which was this:
Sorry for poor quality, but that’s because he actually took the time to print out the comic, modify it manually, scan it, and email it to me. Gotta respect that level of effort.
In related news, I have come out on the other side of the Great Ubuntu Experience of 2009 just smashingly fine. No major hangups so far, and it’s plug and play capabilities are outstanding – light-years away from what I’ve read on forums of past releases where configuring drivers with hardware was a struggle. I’d safely suggest it to anyone looking to ditch Windows. But the real test will be to see how the system holds up over time and if it can continue to adequately serve my needs.
Fittingly enough, I was scanning in pictures for a digital frame for my Grandma, and came across this beaut:
Thats me, with my first computer ever – an Apple IIe. Funny how this Christmas, I got a new computer, and new moccasins as well…
